Kelli Holden- Classroom Teacher
Name: Kelli Holden
Current Position: I am a third grade teacher at a year-round school in Wake County. This is my third year teaching and I currently teach ALL subjects.
Why EDTC 6037
This school year I have begin helping other teachers with technology and sharing new things I learn on ways to use technology within their classrooms. I am currently seeking licensure in instructional technology to better myself within my district. I am interested in becoming a digital learning coordinator within Wake County so that I am able to help more teachers with technology integration. I enrolled in this course specifically, because within the digital learning coordinator position I have to be prepared to assist other educators in integration of technology across all subjects in meaningful ways versus just as a substitution.
Learning Goals
Throughout this course I am excited to learn about new ways to integrate technology into my own classroom beyond just substitution, but to also be able to share my new knowledge with other educators in my building and in the future with other educators throughout the county. I want to learn ways to integrate technology in math, science, and healthful living that helps foster the 4 C's (collaboration, communication. creativity, and critical thinking).
Technology Integration Experience
As a classroom teacher I integrate technology into my daily plans for my students. I currently use Google Classroom as my LMS. When integrating technology I work to ensure the 4 C's are included. As I explore and learn new ways to integrate technology I like to try it out in my classroom. Some of the programs I've used include FlipGrid, PearDeck, Google slides, Google forms, Padlet.
Questions and Concerns Related to Technology Integration in K-12 setting
My biggest concern in regards to technology integration in the K-12 setting is ensuring that technology isn't being used to just "replace" a worksheet in my classroom, but yet has a meaningful purpose to enhance learning and best prepare my students to be successful in the 21st century.
Another concern that I have is making sure that administration within my building understands the importance of the use of technology in the classroom and not looking at it as just being "good if you're doing it" or "extra", but more of a necessity. With this outlook, this would ensure that teachers/classrooms have up to date technology, enough technology whether it is tablets, laptops, etc. , and proper professional development on integration to ensure success.
